Chainsaw (CS30) (Units 20-02 / 20-03) Maintenance & Crosscutting

Duration: Two days

Group Size: Maximum of 4 learners

Who should attend: All persons who are required to maintain and operate chainsaws for crosscutting only. This two day training course prepares the trainee to take the NPTC independent assessment unit CS30.

Course aims: The course aims to ensure learners are aware how to use and maintain portable abrasive wheel equipment safely (Disc Cutter/Grinder).

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of the course the learners will cover the following content:

  • State and identify the necessary clothing required and locate the various standard marks
  • Identify safety features on a chainsaw
  • Maintain the guide bar and sharpen chains to manufacturers specifications
  • Carry out correctly all routine maintenance
  • Prepare the chainsaw for use with the correct fuel and oil mix and chain lubrication
  • Start the chainsaw from both cold and hot in a safe manner
  • Cross cut timber accurately to required lengths in a safe manner and organise site safety

  • Outline PUWER, testing, maintenance, and suitability of equipment
  • PPE, respiratory protective requirements
  • Implications of vibration, noise etc
  • Outline electrical safety issues
  • Explain wheel markings, wheel types etc
  • Safe mounting of wheels
  • Safe use of disc cutter/grinder
  • Practical demonstration and use
  • Certification: Upon successful completion of the end of course assessment the learners will receive a certificate of attendance supplied by the training provider.

    NB: Learners must supply their own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for this course.
